About

Emmanuel is a writer and photojournalist. He began his writing career at El Sol de San Diego as its sports editor in the early 1990s. He did his own sports photography, teaching himself the basics. At the newspaper, he moved beyond sports reporting to cover news and cultural events, further developing his skills in photojournalism.

As Sports Editor he covered San Diego’s professional football, baseball and soccer teams, and many of the major boxing events held in San Diego, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas. In addition, as a reporter for El Sol de San Diego, he provided coverage on matters related to education, environment health, and government.

His love of photography began in 1980 when he purchased his first camera, a Minolta xgm, while visiting San Francisco. He finds photography a good counterpoint to his writing; it gets him outside, lets him interact with people, and provides a break from long hours of solitary work.

His non-fiction has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, El Sol de San Diego, San Diego Weekly Reader, Rugby West Magazine and Rugby News. His fiction has appeared in San Diego Writer’s Monthly, Tidepools, Weavings: an anthology of San Diego writers, and Solstice Literary Quarterly. His Novel "Vagabond Blues" was a San Diego Book Award Finalist.

In 1981, Emmanuel was a captain of the national championship minor-league professional football team the Twin City Cougars. In 1984, he helped create the largest peer group security company in the country and in 1986 toured as Security Director for the Bob Dylan/Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers North American Tour.

Emmanuel was born in Lynwood, California, attended California State University at Northridge on a football scholarship. He lives in Prague, Czech Republic.
